Birdsedge Village Festival - Guests 2009

FRIDAY

FrumptarnFrumptarn Guggenband

They make us smile!

Noisy, boisterous, good natured and colourful, Frumptarn are from Barnsley (frum t'tahn - geddit?) and promise to make Friday's Beerfest go with a swing. They're brilliant entertainers and also excellent quaffers!

Harry RowlandHarry Rowland

We like harry!

Harry won our Musical Youth competition on 2007 and since then has appreared at festivals both as a soloist and in bands. He's a folkie with leanings towards rock and roll so expect an great mixture of styles from this excellent young performer, both covers and his own songs. Keep and eye on Harry. We predict he's going places. And that means further than Denby Dale.

SATURDAY

Tanglefoot

Tanglefoot (Canada)

They make us cheer! (And stomp and sing!)

Tanglefoot has just announced that 2009 will be their last year and so the tour in June-July 2009 will be their final UK one and Birdsedge will be their very last northern gig. (Very fitting as it was also their first ever gig in the UK in 1998.)

Massively popular, Tanglefoot fans are devastated to lose them. If you're a Tanglefoot fan then you'll already be reaching for the phone to book tickets. If you've never seen them before then this is your last chance. Don't miss it

"Superior musicians who are able to play with utter abandon and still achieve an exceptionally high musical standard...a genuinely super band of vigorous, head-shaking, hair-tossing wildmen." - Stephen Pedersen Halifax Herald, Nova Scotia

A stunning five-piece, top-flight band from Ontario. Powerful vocals, dazzling instrumentals, stunning stage-presence. These five play their original Canadian Folk Music with great panache. Their stage show is exciting, uplifting, amusing. They are high-energy entertainers.

Cara LuftCara Luft with Hugh McMillan

“This is her time, this is her year and this is the album. Make way for Cara Luft before she kicks your door down.” CKUA’s Terry David Mulligan

Singer/songwriter/guitarist extraordinaire Cara Luft is that rare artist steeped in folk and traditional roots music almost from birth yet willing to alter that fabric, stretch the boundaries, not afraid to bend genres, styles and integrate what others might regard as a disparate set of influences. A founding member of Juno award winning folk music trio The Wailin’ Jennys, her music has been described as “a rich roots travelogue whose traditional heart beats with a wholly contemporary pulse spanning the distance between the mists of English folk balladry and Middle East mysticism, through to the Mississippi Delta and the rustic wonders of the Appalachian Hills, with a certain fearless reverence and no small amount of soul.” (Ottawa Xpress) Americana UK declares her “a consummate performer. Unlike so many singer-songwriters, Luft’s music has an urgency that can’t be denied.” Critics have drawn comparisons to Julie Miller, June Tabor, Gillian Welch, Linda Thompson and even Brit folk- rockers Pentangle.

Blair DunlopBlair Dunlop

Singer-songwriter Blair won our Musical Youth competition in 2008 with his set of self-penned songs. He will be doing a set on the main stage just before Tanglefoot on our Saturday night concert. With parents Judy Dunlop and Ashley Hutchins it seems inevitable that Blair will make an impact on the music business. We hope we can soon say 'You saw him here first.'
